Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang flagged off the state’s contingent for Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival 2024 from Ridge Park, Gangtok, on Friday. As a Partner State for the 25th edition, Sikkim’s participation highlights cultural unity and shared northeastern heritage.

The contingent includes SHGs, bikers, a car rally team, media personnel, and officials from Tourism, Culture, and Commerce & Industries departments. Social organizations will also showcase Sikkim’s unique traditions and crafts during the event.

At the flag-off ceremony, Chief Minister Tamang expressed pride in collaborating with Nagaland, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange in fostering regional unity. He praised the Hornbill Festival’s global reputation as a platform for celebrating the Northeast’s vibrant traditions.

Nagaland’s Chief Secretary Dr. J Alam said the 25th edition, marking the festival’s silver jubilee, has gained national and international acclaim since its 2000 inception.

Set at Kisama Heritage Village, the Hornbill Festival celebrates the diversity of northeastern states. Sikkim’s role as a Partner State strengthens ties between the two regions.

Dubbed the “Festival of Festivals,” it is one of India’s premier cultural events, featuring traditional music, dance, art, and cuisine. Sikkim’s involvement underscores its commitment to cultural promotion and regional cooperation.

CM Tamang extended his best wishes to the contingent, underscoring the festival’s significance in uniting diverse communities and boosting tourism. Preparations in Nagaland are ongoing, with a large national and international turnout anticipated.
