Prime Minister Narendra Modi<\/a> was conferred Nigeria\u2019s second-highest national award<\/a>, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON<\/a>), by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu<\/a> in Abuja on Sunday. Modi is only the second foreign dignitary to receive the honor, following Queen Elizabeth in 1969.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his remarks, Modi expressed his gratitude, dedicating the award to the people of India. \u201cI accept this honor with humility and respect and dedicate it to the 140 crore Indians and our enduring friendship with Nigeria,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his visit, the Prime Minister emphasised the importance of strengthening the India-Nigeria strategic<\/a> partnership. He highlighted mutual cooperation in sectors like defence<\/a>, energy, trade, and security. Modi noted the shared challenges of terrorism, piracy, and radicalisation and reaffirmed both countries\u2019 commitment to tackling these issues together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Modi\u2019s visit marks the first trip by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in 17 years. He held a productive meeting with President Tinubu<\/a>, discussing ways to enhance bilateral relations. The two leaders explored new possibilities for collaboration in areas such as agriculture, fintech, small enterprises, and culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PM Modi<\/a> also acknowledged Nigeria\u2019s positive role in Africa, noting that close cooperation with the continent has been a priority for India. \u201cNigeria has a very big and positive role in Africa, and India and Nigeria will move forward together for the prosperity of both nations and the entire African continent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of his three-nation tour<\/a>, Modi will continue his visit to Brazil<\/a> and Guyana<\/a>, further strengthening India\u2019s global ties. This prestigious award, his 17th international recognition<\/a>, underscores his leadership in enhancing India\u2019s standing on the world stage.<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
