A new bus terminus<\/a> was inaugurated at Tinbatti More on Wednesday, marking a significant step toward reducing traffic congestion in Siliguri<\/a> by streamlining bus operations across the city. Spanning four acres, this facility is the city\u2019s third terminus, joining the Tenzing Norgay Central Bus Terminus<\/a> and the PCM Bus Terminus.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project, a collaboration between the Siliguri Municipal Corporation<\/a> (SMC<\/a>) and the state transport department, was inaugurated by Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb<\/a>. \u201cThe local bus stand will be relocated here. The Darjeeling district magistrate will soon meet with bus operators to finalise the transition,\u201d said Deb during the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The terminus, built at a cost of \u20b92.58 crore, features 15 bus bays and a toilet block. The North Bengal State Transport Corporation<\/a> (NBSTC)<\/a> has already launched bus services on four routes: Pahargumia, Panitanki, Kharibari, and Naxalbari. Plans are underway to expand services to Jalpaiguri<\/a>, Alipurduar<\/a>, Cooch Behar<\/a>, and other areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis shift will help decongest Siliguri\u2019s main roads,\u201d stated a civic body <\/a>source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The facility\u2019s<\/a> development will also include lighting infrastructure, with \u20b940 lakh allocated by the state power department for illumination. Mayor Deb<\/a> highlighted additional traffic management <\/a>initiatives in collaboration with the transport department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a related effort, long-distance buses travelling to Bihar<\/a> and Assam will be moved to Paribahan Nagar<\/a> in Matigara, on the northern outskirts of Siliguri<\/a>. The Siliguri Jalpaiguri<\/a> Development Authority and the state municipal affairs department plan to invest \u20b92 crore to enhance infrastructure at Paribahan Nagar<\/a>, aiming to further streamline vehicular movement in the city.<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
