Trinamool Congress<\/a> MPs have raised concerns over the alleged involvement of the Modi-led <\/a>government following US charges against billionaire Gautam Adani <\/a>and his associates for bribery. Adani<\/a> is accused of paying $250 million in bribes<\/a> to Indian officials from 2020 to 2024 to secure favorable terms for solar energy<\/a> contracts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TMC <\/a>MP Saket Gokhale criticized the Indian government\u2019s<\/a> silence while markets reacted sharply to the allegations, with Adani Energy stocks plummeting<\/a> and the group\u2019s total market valuation eroding by \u20b92.45 lakh crore. Gokhale<\/a> shared updates on X, highlighting the indictment\u2019s implications and demanding clarity on the government\u2019s involvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TMC MP Mahua Moitra<\/a> also criticized Adani and called for an independent judicial probe, stating the charges point to a larger systemic corruption involving public sector units. She accused SEBI<\/a> Chief Madhabi Puri Buch of inaction and questioned SEBI<\/a>\u2018s impartiality, citing alleged ties to the Adani Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BJP<\/a> responded by questioning the timing of the charges, coinciding with the Parliament <\/a>session and political developments in the US. BJP<\/a> IT head Amit Malviya pointed out that the bribe-related states mentioned in the indictment were opposition-ruled at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US prosecutors allege that Adani<\/a> concealed the bribery scheme from American<\/a> banks and investors, who provided billions for the project. The alleged corruption, if proven, could have yielded profits exceeding $2 billion for the Adani <\/a>Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case follows scrutiny from US short-seller Hindenburg<\/a> Research, which earlier accused SEBI<\/a> of being compromised in its investigation of the Adani <\/a>Group. Both SEBI and Adani <\/a>have refuted these allegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
