Defence Minister Rajnath Singh<\/a> has called for embracing Buddhist <\/a>doctrines of peaceful coexistence to address global conflicts and restore balance to the strained international order. Speaking at the ASEAN <\/a>Defence Ministers\u2019 Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus<\/a>) in Laos<\/a>, Singh highlighted India\u2019s commitment to dialogue and negotiation as tools for resolving complex international issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith the world increasingly polarised into blocs and camps, leading to strain on the established world order, it is time that Buddhist doctrines of peaceful coexistence are embraced more closely by all,\u201d Singh said. He was addressing defence ministers<\/a> from ASEAN<\/a> nations and eight dialogue partners, including China\u2019s<\/a> Dong Jun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India<\/a>, Singh emphasised, has always relied on open communication to tackle challenges ranging from border<\/a> disputes to trade agreements. \u201cAn open dialogue promotes trust, understanding, and cooperation, laying the foundation for sustainable partnerships. The power of dialogue has always proven effective, yielding tangible results that contribute to stability and harmony on the global stage,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the Indo-Pacific region<\/a>, Singh underlined India\u2019s support for freedom of navigation, lawful commerce<\/a>, and adherence to international law. Referring to the ongoing discussions on the South China<\/a> Sea Code of Conduct, Singh stated, \u201cIndia would like to see a code that does not prejudice the legitimate rights and interests of nations that are not party to these discussions. It must fully comply with international law<\/a>, particularly the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Singh also highlighted India\u2019s longstanding ties with Southeast Asia<\/a>, describing ASEAN<\/a> as pivotal for regional peace and prosperity.
