Sikkim has named Kuzu<\/em>, a snow leopard<\/a>, as the official mascot for its 50th statehood anniversary, which will be celebrated on May 16, 2025. The announcement, made through a notification by the Home Department on December 9, 2024, marks the beginning of preparations for the milestone event. The celebrations will be themed \u201cSunaulo Samriddha Ani Samarth Sikkim\u201d<\/em> (Golden, Prosperous, and Empowered Sikkim), reflecting the state\u2019s aspirations for sustainable growth and self-reliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The notification emphasised the importance of creating widespread awareness for the occasion, stating, \u201cThe state government is pleased to designate the Snow Leopard, named \u2018Kuzu<\/a>,\u2019 as the official mascot to promote recognition and publicity of this significant event.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renowned for its natural beauty and biodiversity, Sikkim<\/a> chose the Snow Leopard to highlight its commitment to environmental conservation. An endangered species native to the Himalayan region, the Snow Leopard symbolises the state\u2019s dedication to protecting its ecological heritage and unique wildlife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Secretary V.B. Pathak <\/a>called the golden jubilee a landmark event, stating, \u201cThis 50th statehood anniversary is a defining moment for Sikkim. \u2018Kuzu\u2019 embodies our pride and ambition, bridging our historical legacy with our aspirations for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The celebrations will include a series of cultural programs, conservation campaigns, and community events designed to honour Sikkim\u2019s achievements since becoming part of the Indian Union in 1975. The state government will integrate elements such as an official logo, theme song, and Kuzu<\/em> as the mascot to foster unity and instill pride among its people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
