Kalimpong: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista on Friday visited the landslide-affected stretch of NH-10 near Selfie-Dara, where continuous monsoon-triggered landslides have severely disrupted connectivity between Sevoke, Kalimpong, and Gangtok. Assuring local residents of his support, Bista emphasized his commitment to restoring reliable road links and addressing long-term safety concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NH-10 corridor, a critical lifeline for Sikkim and Kalimpong, remains completely blocked due to recurring landslides. The closure has left thousands affected, jeopardizing travel, trade, and local livelihoods. Bista noted that the disruption underscored the urgent need for sustainable road solutions in the landslide-prone Himalayan terrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During his visit, Bista praised the efforts of NHIDCL engineers and workers who are working under hazardous conditions to clear debris. \u201cI commend their swift response amid challenging terrain and incessant rain,\u201d he said, highlighting the courage and dedication of frontline teams operating despite the risks posed by unstable slopes and continuous rainfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While appreciating the immediate relief efforts, the MP stressed the importance of durable engineering interventions. He reiterated his demand for accelerated slope stabilization using advanced technologies such as wire duct lining, which can significantly reduce the risk of future landslides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bista also reaffirmed the need for an alternative Sevoke\u2013Melli alignment, backed by a PMC-supported Detailed Project Report (DPR), to ensure long-term connectivity and safety for commuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Urging collective responsibility, Bista called upon multiple agencies\u2014including NHIDCL, IRCON, NHPC, BRO, West Bengal PWD, and the Brahmaputra Board\u2014to work in close coordination. \u201cWe will do everything possible, in cooperation with the Ministry of Roads, to restore a safe and high-standard NH-10,\u201d he assured, signaling solidarity with affected communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
