Suicide Bombing at Quetta Railway Station in Pakistan Kills 25

Date:

At least 25 people have been killed and dozens more injured in a bomb explosion at Quetta Railway Station in Balochistan, Pakistan, on Saturday morning. The blast occurred just as a train was about to depart for Peshawar. Among the dead were both civilians and military personnel. Senior police official Muhammad Baloch confirmed the explosion was likely caused by a suicide bomber carrying 6–8 kg of explosives. The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist militant group, claimed responsibility, stating the attack targeted a Pakistani military unit returning from a training course.

The explosion left a scene of devastation, with videos showing passengers at the platform at the moment of the blast, followed by widespread chaos. Several individuals were seen lying on the ground, screaming for help, while others were rushed to hospitals with serious injuries. Abdul Jabbar, one of the injured, described the moment as “horror,” comparing it to “judgement day.”

Balochistan, the largest yet poorest province of Pakistan, has long been a hotspot for separatist insurgencies. Militants, like the BLA, have historically targeted the region’s energy projects and military forces, accusing the government of exploiting local resources while excluding the Baloch people from their benefits. The province shares volatile borders with Iran and Afghanistan, adding to its instability.

Authorities are continuing investigations into the nature of the explosion, while emergency services and hospitals have been put on high alert to handle the surge in casualties. The death toll is expected to rise, as many of the injured remain in critical condition. Both Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker and Balochistan’s Chief Minister condemned the attack, calling those responsible “enemies of humanity.”
