Tragic Mudslide at Gangtok Construction Site Claims Lives of Two Workers from West Bengal

Date:

Two workers, Subhra Deb Das (29) and Biswajit Biswas (34), both hailing from West Bengal, tragically lost their lives in a mudslide at a construction site near White Hall, Gangtok, between 5:30 and 6:00 PM.

A fellow worker, Uttam Biswas, witnessed the incident and immediately alerted local authorities. The bodies were subsequently recovered and sent to STNM Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

The incident has raised serious concerns about safety protocols at construction sites in the region. Authorities have registered a case under section 194 BNSS, 2023, at the Sadar Police Station and are currently investigating the factors behind the mudslide, including the adequacy of safety measures at the site.

This tragedy highlights the urgent need for stricter safety regulations and enhanced precautions to safeguard workers, particularly in regions prone to natural disasters such as landslides. Local officials and community members have called on construction companies to enforce more stringent safety standards to prevent such incidents in the future.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to ascertain the circumstances leading to this unfortunate event.
