Suraksha Pant Inspires Siliguri At BukAnt Story Session

Date:

BukAnt hosts Superstar Suraksha Pant
The world of cinema comprises a vast and multi-faceted domain. It converges top storytellers, visual-imagery artists, and musicians to create vistas that mirror the emotions and experiences of the individual and society. Cinema is a powerful art form that transcends geographies and cultures to entertain, educate, and inspire audiences. Human imagination is limitless, and cinema helps express it on screen in a vivid and memorable way.

Within this global tapestry, Nepal’s film industry has flourished and carved a unique artistic identity. Drawing from Nepal’s rich cultural diversity, breathtaking landscapes, and deeply human stories, Nepali cinema reflects both local realities and universal emotions, adding a distinctive voice to the world of cinema. This distinctive voice manifested itself in our backyard in the form of the leading and versatile actor, Suraksha Pant, who is currently on a tour of north Bengal, especially the Dooars, to promote her upcoming film ‘Dhago’.

Siliguri-based BukAnt Publication House had the proud privilege of hosting Suraksha Pant for a short but enjoyable, fruitful, and inspiring session on Monday evening, Nov 4, 2025 at BukAnt’s premises in Bhanu Bhakta Samiti, Gurung Busty, Siliguri.

Conversing with poet and BukAnt director Raja Puniani, Pant recounted her foray into Nepali cinema and her experiences through the years, including her views on storytelling and literature in general. She enthralled the audience with her sagacity and her thought-provoking replies to the questions fielded by Puniani.
Pant, who has a degree in engineering, said none from her family are even remotely associated with acting, cinema, and films. However, she nurtured a strong inclination towards acting from an early age and credited her success as an actor to keeping alive this interest.

Pant believes ‘method acting’ to be one of the most difficult acting techniques, whereby an actor has to deeply immerse in a character role by drawing on personal emotions and life experiences to showcase a more authentic and psychologically in-depth performance.

According to Pant, the screen and theatre enjoy the relationship of companions and this is why every artist should be familiar with drama. She added films these days tend to overlook the importance of the underlying story, which should be avoided at all costs. The superstar added she intends to direct films in future and whenever such an opportunity arises, she would choose a book penned by an author. Pant concluded by saying that she would have gone on to become a teacher if she had not taken up acting.

Speaking about her promotional tour, Pant said she was mesmerised by the natural beauty of the Dooars region and urged the government to focus on developing it into a major tourism hotspot. Her upcoming film ‘Dhago’ takes the audience on a tour of life in the Dooars and is slated to be unveiled across theatres from November 14, 2025.

Also present at the event were film, literature and theatre veterans of Siliguri and Darjeeling, including Jiwan Gurung (Himalayan Theatre Workshop), Tikum Sharma, Mukti Upadhyay, Krishna Pradhan, Krishna Gurung, Raju Shashankar, Sharad Gurung, and Parwati Dewan. Social enthusiast Bikash Biswakarma was the coordinator of the event.
