CM Prem Singh Tamang Announces Rs.36 Crore To L.D. Kazi Centre For Sports, Wellness And Heritage

In a landmark development for West Sikkim, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has officially announced the establishment of the L.D. Kazi Centre for Wellness and Sports Facility cum Museum at Chakung in Soreng District. The ambitious project, sanctioned with a budget of ₹36 crore, will be funded by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), reflecting the government’s commitment to regional development, youth engagement, and cultural preservation.

The centre will be dedicated to Late L.D. Kazi, the first Chief Minister of Sikkim, honoring his pioneering contributions to the state’s political, social, and cultural progress. Designed as a multifunctional facility, the centre will integrate sports, wellness, and cultural heritage under a single roof, offering a unique hub for community engagement and tourism.

Speaking at the announcement, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang emphasized the significance of the project, stating,
“This project is not just about infrastructure; it is about honoring the vision and leadership of Late L.D. Kazi, who laid the foundation for a progressive Sikkim. The centre will inspire future generations to embrace wellness, sportsmanship, and pride in our heritage.”

The L.D. Kazi Centre is expected to become a major landmark in West Sikkim, attracting visitors, researchers, and sports enthusiasts alike. It aims to promote youth participation, healthy living, and cultural awareness, while also enhancing tourism opportunities in the region.
