The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed an FIR against Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd, the second-largest purchaser of electoral bonds totaling Rs 966 crore, in an alleged bribery case, as reported by PTI citing officials.
The FIR also includes eight officials from NISP and NMDC, along with two officials from MECON, accused of receiving bribes amounting to approximately Rs 78 lakh. These bribes allegedly facilitated the clearance of bills totaling Rs 174 crore for Megha Engineering’s projects related to the Jagdalpur integrated steel plant.
Megha Engineering emerged as the second-largest buyer of electoral bonds, contributing approximately Rs 586 crore to the BJP, as disclosed by the Election Commission. Additionally, donations were made to other political parties such as BRS, DMK, YSRCP, TDP, Congress, JD-S, Jana Sena Party, and JD-U.
The FIR, made public on Saturday, reveals that the CBI initiated a preliminary enquiry on August 10, 2023, regarding alleged bribery in a project worth Rs 315 crore at the Jagdalpur integrated steel plant. Based on its findings, a recommendation was made on March 18 to register a regular case, which was filed on March 31.
The CBI has named several officials from NISP, NMDC Ltd, and MECON Ltd, along with Subhash Chandra Sangras and Megha Engineering, as accused in the case.
