Sikkim, 23 August 2025 – In a bid to ensure that educational resources allocated under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) are being utilized effectively, Sikkim’s Lok Sabha MP, Dr. Indra Hang Subba, has launched an initiative to assess the impact of these resources on educational institutions across the state.
The first inspection of the initiative was conducted at Government Senior Secondary School in Kechuperi, where the MP reviewed several infrastructure upgrades made possible through MPLADS funds. Among the improvements observed were the installation of new computers, projectors, office furniture, and upgraded library facilities. These additions were found to be in active use, significantly enhancing the school’s teaching and learning environment.
A Comprehensive Evaluation of MPLADS Contributions
Dr. Subba emphasized the importance of ensuring that the resources allocated under MPLADS are not only received but also put to optimal use in strengthening the state’s educational infrastructure. “This initiative is part of a larger effort to assess the effectiveness of the resources we provide and to make sure they contribute meaningfully to the betterment of our schools. We must ensure that every penny spent is used efficiently and benefits our students,” said Dr. Subba during the inspection.
The initiative is being led by Officer on Special Duty, Nosang Limboo, who is overseeing the evaluation process. He is working closely with local school officials, including Principal Rudra Mani Sharma and former in-charge Laal Man Limboo, to gather data on the utilization of these resources. The team is also conducting interviews and discussions with teachers and students to better understand the impact of these upgrades on the educational experience.
Focus on Strengthening Educational Facilities Statewide
The ultimate goal of this initiative is to ensure that educational resources provided under MPLADS not only improve infrastructure but also enhance the overall learning experience for students across Sikkim. The assessment will be carried out in other schools throughout the state, with a special focus on areas where there is a significant gap in educational facilities.
“By assessing the utilization of these resources, we can identify any gaps in infrastructure or training and take corrective actions. It’s essential that our schools are equipped with the tools they need to provide quality education, and this initiative is one way to ensure that we are on the right path,” Dr. Subba added.
The launch of this initiative is seen as a proactive step by Dr. Subba to hold the educational system accountable and foster transparency in the use of government resources. As the assessments continue, further reports will be shared with the public, highlighting the outcomes and areas for improvement.
