Namchi, August 25:
In a stunning display of talent and determination, Ved Rai, a Class IV student from Udichi Elementary School, Namchi, has emerged as a rising star in Sikkim’s sporting scene after a clean sweep at the XIX Sikkim State Open Swimming Championship 2025, held on August 23–24.
Competing in the Sub Junior IV Boys category, the 9-year-old prodigy claimed nine gold medals — one in every event he entered. Capping off his remarkable performance, Ved was also awarded the prestigious Best Swimmer Trophy in his category.
Such dominance across all events is a rare feat in state-level swimming, particularly for such a young athlete. Ved’s exceptional performance reflects not only his raw talent but also his rigorous training, discipline, and competitive spirit.
Ved trains under the guidance of Dr. Miwang Tamang and Mr. Chong Dorjee Tamang, and receives professional coaching from Miss Rajina Rai, a certified swimming coach from SAI Bangalore. Their mentorship has been key in shaping Ved’s technique and mental strength in the pool.
His incredible achievement has brought immense pride to his school, his hometown, and the entire Namchi district. Teachers, coaches, and sports enthusiasts alike have praised his dedication, calling him a role model for young swimmers in the state.
With a strong foundation already laid, many believe Ved Rai is on track to make his mark in national competitions — and perhaps even represent India in the years to come.
