Darjeeling | October 8, 2025:
In the wake of devastating landslides that struck multiple regions across Darjeeling district, key political leaders including Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, and West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari visited the affected areas to assess the situation and review ongoing relief efforts.
The visit covered several severely impacted locations such as Soureni Dhargaon in Toklang, Mirik, Thurbo 9th Mile, Seeyok Bhasmay Naya Gaon, and the Pulbazar Bridge in Bijanbari. At each site, the leaders interacted with displaced families, inspected rescue operations, and evaluated the condition of infrastructure and emergency response.
One of the key stops included a visit to a temporary shelter home in Soureni, where 18 families have taken refuge after losing their homes to the landslides. The leaders offered their condolences to those who lost loved ones and assured continued support for rehabilitation, rebuilding, and the restoration of essential services.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju reaffirmed the Central Government’s solidarity with the people of Darjeeling and emphasized that all necessary assistance would be provided. The leaders also praised the efforts of the SSB and NDRF teams currently involved in rescue and relief operations.
In a symbolic act of remembrance, the delegation participated in a tree-planting ceremony at Mirik Alay Ground to honor the memory of those who died in the disaster.
