Nirmal Chettri Declares His Retirement From Professional Football

Nirmal Chettri, the renowned football player from Sikkim who starred for the Indian national team, announced his retirement from the sport on social media.

Chettri, a 33-year-old defender from Melli, began his career there. He competed in 19 games for India’s national team and helped them win the SAFF Championship in 2011 and the Nehru Cup in 2012. He began playing football at the Namchi Sports Hostel and Sports Academy in Gangtok, Sikkim. He played for some of the major league teams during the course of his 16-year career, including East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, and Mohammedan SC. He played in the Indian Super League for Northeast United FC, FC Goa, and Punjab FC (ISL).
