Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah Attends Cannes Film Festival, Invited by Cannes Mayor David Lisnard

Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Mayor Balen Shah graced the red carpet at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, invited by Cannes Mayor David Lisnard. Balen, renowned for his dynamic leadership, attended the premiere of legendary director Francis Ford Coppola’s film “Megalopolis.”

In 2022, actress Surakshya Panta became the first Nepalese to participate in the Cannes Film Festival. Shah followed, attending the event in a traditional Nepali “daura suruwal”, expressing his gratitude to the Cannes Mayor through social media posts that resonated with national pride.

During his three-day visit to France, Balen participated in various events, engaging with global leaders, filmmakers, and cultural icons. This visit underscores his commitment to building international relationships and fostering infrastructural development in Nepal.

Before becoming Kathmandu’s 15th Mayor in 2022, Balen was a prominent rapper and civil engineer, as well as a poet and music composer. His multifaceted background and leadership highlight his blend of cultural appreciation and practical development.
