Bhakti Nagar police have arrested two individuals, including a woman, in connection with the gruesome murder of 25-year-old Pushpa Chhetri. The suspects, identified as Rustam Vishwakarma and Pratika Paudel, were apprehended nine days after the crime, while a third accused remains at large.
Pushpa Chhetri was found with her throat slit in her rented house in Lower Bhanu Nagar under Ward No. 43 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation. The murder sent shockwaves through the city and left the local community in fear. Police suspect that the crime was motivated by a love affair.
Rustam, who had been living in Siliguri for work, was arrested Friday night, while Pratika was detained in Bagrakote, Malbazar. Both suspects are residents of Malbazar. On Saturday, the pair were presented before the Jalpaiguri court as police continued their search for the absconding accused.
Reports indicate that Pushpa had been living in the rented house for seven months. Her lifeless body was discovered last Wednesday, prompting an investigation by Bhakti Nagar police, with the involvement of forensic teams. Family members of the deceased had initially expressed suspicions of foul play, which were later confirmed by the arrests.
Police are continuing their investigation while efforts to locate the third suspect are underway. Meanwhile, Pushpa’s family is demanding justice, and the murder has left an atmosphere of unease in the Bhanu Nagar area.FORENSIC.
