The Chief Secretary of Sikkim, V.B. Pathak, has initiated preparations for the state’s 50th Statehood Day celebrations, scheduled for May 16, 2025. In a high-level meeting with senior officials, Pathak reviewed plans for the milestone event and the year-long activities that will follow, according to a government statement.
Pathak emphasised the importance of seamless coordination among departments to ensure the success of the celebrations, describing the event as a “historic milestone” for the state. “This is a momentous occasion for Sikkim. Every department must work collectively to showcase the progress and cultural heritage of our state,” he said during the meeting.
To achieve this, specific responsibilities have been assigned to various government departments, with instructions for meticulous planning and execution of the events. The statement also revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to be the chief guest for the grand function, which will take place in the state capital, Gangtok, on May 16.
The celebrations will feature a comprehensive agenda highlighting Sikkim’s journey over the past five decades since its inclusion as the 22nd state of India in 1975. “This is not just a celebration of our past but also an opportunity to reflect on our future aspirations,” Pathak added.
The 50th Statehood Day marks a significant chapter in Sikkim’s history, with celebrations anticipated to draw national attention, enhancing the state’s cultural and developmental image.
