A video circulating on social media has drawn widespread concern after a woman from Sikkim alleged she was assaulted while in Delhi. In the emotional footage, the woman claims she was touched inappropriately and, in a distressed state, expressed fears for her safety and well-being, stating she may harm herself if justice is not delivered.
The incident has sparked strong reactions, particularly within the Northeast community. In response, the Sikkim State Commission for Women has acknowledged the video and urged the public to respect the survivor’s privacy by refraining from further circulation of the content. The Commission emphasized that sharing such material compromises the dignity and mental health of the survivor.
Swift Action by Delhi Authorities
The Special Police Unit for North Eastern Region (SPUNER) of the Delhi Police has launched an investigation into the matter. Prominent advocate for Northeast communities, Mr. Robin Hibu, is closely involved and has offered his full support to ensure justice and safety for the survivor.
According to a public statement from Member of Parliament Raju Bista, both parties involved have agreed to resolve the matter mutually. The woman has since been safely escorted back home by SPUNER officers and dedicated volunteers.
MP Bista expressed his sincere appreciation to SPUNER, the Delhi Police, and all individuals and organizations who showed concern and took steps to ensure the woman’s safety and mental well-being.
