In a shocking development early this morning, Arun Mishra, a well-known and respected advocate from Siliguri, was found dead on the railway tracks between Rangapani and New Jalpaiguri (NJP) stations. The body was discovered around 9:15 AM, and authorities are currently treating the case as an unnatural death.
Arun Mishra was a prominent figure in Siliguri’s legal community, widely known for his sharp legal insight, calm demeanor, and principled approach to his work. News of his untimely death has left fellow advocates, clients, and community members in deep shock and mourning.
Body Found in Severely Damaged Condition
According to sources, Mishra’s body was recovered from a stretch of railway tracks near Rangapani, in a severely mutilated state. Initial observations suggest the possibility of a collision with a down train, though officials have not confirmed this detail. The Government Railway Police (GRP) was notified and quickly took custody of the body.

A close associate and friend of the late advocate revealed that Mishra had left home earlier in the morning to visit his field near Rangapani, something he was known to do regularly. “This was part of his routine. He often visited the field early in the day,” the friend stated. However, what transpired after that remains unclear.
The area where the body was discovered is not known to be a regular pedestrian crossing point, adding further mystery to the circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigators are expected to review CCTV footage, if available, and question locals to piece together a timeline.

Members of the Siliguri Bar Association expressed their deep sorrow and paid tribute to Arun Mishra’s legacy. Many described him as a mentally strong, ethical, and dedicated legal professional who had served the community with integrity.
“He always stood for truth and justice. His absence will be deeply felt in our legal circle,” said a senior advocate who worked closely with Mishra.
A condolence meeting is expected to be held by the Bar Association in the coming days.
