Renowned Assamese singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg passed away at the age of 52 after a tragic scuba diving accident in Singapore. He was in the city to perform at the North East Festival, which was scheduled for September 20.
According to reports, Zubeen was rescued from the sea by Singapore police and immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite being placed under intensive medical care, doctors were unable to save him. The exact details of the accident are still being investigated by local authorities.
Zubeen Garg was one of the most celebrated musicians from Assam and a well-known figure across India. He rose to national fame with his hit Bollywood song “Ya Ali” from the 2006 film Gangster, but he had a much deeper impact in Assamese music, film, and cultural life. Over the years, he worked as a singer, composer, actor, filmmaker, and also took active roles in social and political issues affecting Assam and the Northeast.
His sudden passing has shocked fans and the music community across the country.
