UGC Flags Five Sikkim Universities, Demands Immediate Compliance for Non-Disclosure

Date:

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified five private universities from Sikkim among 54 institutions across India for failing to comply with mandatory disclosure rules under Section 13 of the UGC Act, 1956.

According to a notice issued by UGC Secretary Prof. Manish R. Joshi, these universities either did not submit the required information to the Commission or failed to upload public self-disclosure details on their official websites, despite repeated reminders.

The Sikkim-based universities listed as defaulters are:
1. Medhavi Skills University, Singtam, East Sikkim
2. Sikkim Alpine University, South Sikkim
3. Sikkim Global Technical University, Namchi, South Sikkim
4. Sikkim International University, Sribadam, West Sikkim
5. Sikkim Skill University, Namthang, South Sikkim

The guidelines, introduced in June 2024, make it mandatory for all higher education institutions to maintain functional websites and provide easy public access to institutional details without registration or login.

The UGC has directed the defaulting universities, including those in Sikkim, to comply at the earliest, emphasizing that transparency and accountability are essential to maintaining credibility in higher education.
