The Sikkim Police Issues Advisory For Safe And Vigilant Dasain Celebration

Date:

GANGTOK, Sikkim – October 2, 2025
As the vibrant Dasain (Durga Puja) celebrations continue across Sikkim, the Sikkim Police Department has issued a public advisory urging citizens to remain vigilant and take safety precautions amid increased travel and large public gatherings.

According to Director General of Police (DGP) Akshay Sachdeva, all district police chiefs and station house officers (SHOs) have been instructed to intensify night patrolling across their jurisdictions to deter any potential criminal activity during the festive period.

Public Urged to Secure Valuables and Stay Alert

The advisory strongly encourages residents to avoid keeping large sums of cash, jewelry, or other valuables at home, as such items can attract burglars during times when families are frequently out celebrating or traveling.

While the police are working proactively to maintain security throughout the state, the department emphasized the critical role of public cooperation. “Community vigilance is essential in ensuring that everyone enjoys a safe and peaceful Dasain,” stated DGP Sachdeva.

Reporting Suspicious Activity

Citizens are advised to immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the designated helpline numbers. Quick reporting can help prevent incidents and ensure swift action by law enforcement.

Dasain Festivities in Sikkim

Dasain, one of the most important Hindu festivals in Sikkim, is marked by family gatherings, prayers, and travel across towns and rural areas. As the celebrations bring increased movement and social interactions, the police have taken preventive security measures to avoid theft, burglary, or other disruptions.

A Call for Responsible Celebration

The Sikkim Police aims to ensure that all residents and visitors can participate in the festival with peace of mind, honoring its cultural and religious importance without undue concern for safety.

The department has also reminded citizens to follow traffic rules, avoid overcrowding, and remain respectful of public spaces and religious venues during the celebrations.
