Five Sikkim Musicians to Perform at National Unity Day Celebration in Gujarat

In a proud moment for Sikkim, five young musicians from the state have been selected to perform at the prestigious Ekta Diwas Programme in Kevadia, Gujarat, on October 31. The event, which celebrates Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day), will be graced by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Two talented flautists — Pritam Raj Chettri and Sakcham Subba — along with Aarav Sunar, Pidush Biswas, and Ravi Panusa from the Department of Music, Sikkim University, will take part in a grand flute ensemble performance. They will join more than 90 musicians from across India in a special musical presentation symbolising unity through harmony.

Their selection from among numerous flautists nationwide marks a significant achievement for Sikkim University and reflects the state’s growing cultural presence in India’s national artistic landscape. The young musicians’ inclusion in such a prestigious national event highlights both their individual talent and the increasing recognition of Sikkim’s contribution to India’s music and performing arts.

The Ekta Diwas Programme, observed every year on October 31 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, celebrates the spirit of national integration and unity. The 2025 edition in Kevadia — home to the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue — will feature cultural performances, musical ensembles, and nationwide participation symbolising the idea of “One Nation, One Spirit.”

For Sikkim, the participation of these five students serves as a proud representation of the state’s artistic excellence and the dedication of Sikkim University’s Department of Music in nurturing young talent for the national stage.
