Nepali Scheduled Castes Association Denies Claims Of Conversion To Scheduled Tribes

Date:

The All India Nepali Scheduled Castes Association, Central Committee, Darjeeling, has issued a formal statement strongly rejecting claims circulated by the All India Gorkha Khas, Kami, Damai, Sarki United Forum Dooars, alleging that Nepali Scheduled Castes have been “converted” into Scheduled Tribes since the formation of the organisation.

In its response, the Association described these claims as factually incorrect, legally untenable, and socially disruptive. It reaffirmed that the Nepali Kami, Damai, and Sarki communities are constitutionally recognised as Scheduled Castes under the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950, and continue to lawfully enjoy all constitutional safeguards, reservations, and welfare benefits.

The statement warned that the circulation of misinformation could create confusion and disharmony among vulnerable communities, emphasizing that any continued propagation of such claims may attract action under applicable laws. The Association also stressed the need to prevent actions that could destabilize the social fabric and undermine the rights of the Scheduled Castes in the region.

At the same time, the Association expressed its willingness to engage in constructive dialogue on genuine issues concerning the welfare, rights, and upliftment of Scheduled Castes in the Dooars region. It reiterated the importance of promoting social harmony, legal awareness, and equitable development for the community.

This clarification by the All India Nepali Scheduled Castes Association comes amid growing concern over the spread of misleading information regarding the legal status of the Nepali Scheduled Castes, highlighting the need for accurate reporting and responsible communication on matters affecting marginalized communities.
