Sikkim Winter Special: First Ever Ranji Trophy Cricket

Date:

Sikkim has been given the green light by the BCCI to host its first Ranji Trophy game in December.

The Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA), in a press release, stated that the organisation has got BCCI authorisation to organise Ranji Trophy matches in Sikkim after meeting the requirements for hosting the first-class tournament.

“It brings us great pleasure to publicly announce that the BCCI has authorised SICA Ground to serve as the site of the first-ever Ranji Trophy game to be held in Sikkim beginning on December 13,” SICA said.

The state’s ability to host the games was in doubt due to worries that the necessary tournament-related infrastructure wouldn’t be finished in time.

Anant Datar, the BCCI’s manager for cricket operations, recently visited this area to assess the infrastructure and amenities, and he was impressed by the newly built facilities at the SICA cricket ground in Mining, which is 35 kilometres from the state capital Gangtok.

Sikkim will play its Ranji Trophy games at home against Mizoram, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh. The locations for the two remaining Plate Group games against Meghalaya and Bihar have not yet been revealed.

Sikkim was permitted to host two Cooch Behar Trophy games and three Col. CK Nayudu Trophy contests at the Mining SICA stadium in addition to the Ranji Trophy matches.

In 2018, Sikkim and the other eight brand-new states entered the Ranji Trophy and other top domestic cricket competitions. Sikkim, however, has been competing at adopted home grounds and neutral locations outside of the state due to a lack of a field and amenities.
