A day after the channel’s founders and promoters, Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy, resigned from their positions as directors on the board of RRPR Holding Private Limited, senior journalist Ravish Kumar left NDTV on Wednesday. The departure was effective immediately, the channel’s internal mail stated in an announcement.
The Ramon Magsaysay Award winner Ravish Kumar formerly served as the host of several shows, including Prime Time, Desh Ki Baat, Ravish Ki Report, and Hum Log, the channel’s primary weekday show. Additionally, he has twice received the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award.
Few journalists have had such an impact on people as Ravish, according to Suparna Singh, president of the NDTV Group. “This reflects in the immense feedback about him; in the crowds he draws everywhere; in the prestigious awards and recognition he has received, both within India and internationally; and in his daily reports, which champion the rights and needs of those who are underserved,” she added.

NDTV announced in a regulatory filing on Tuesday that Prannoy Roy and his wife Radhika Roy had resigned from their positions as Directors on the board of RRPR Holding Private Limited. Sudipta Bhattacharya, Sanjay Pugalia, and Senthil Sinniah Chengalvarayan have been appointed as directors on the board of RRPR Holding with immediate effect.
Kumar earned the Ramon Magsaysay Award in September 2019 for “harnessing journalism to give voice to the voiceless.”
According to the Ramon Magsaysay Foundation, Kumar was recognised for “his unwavering commitment to professional, ethical journalism of the highest standards; his moral courage in standing up for truth, integrity, and independence; and his principled belief that journalism fulfils its noblest aims to advance democracy by giving full and respectful voice to the voiceless and in speaking truth bravely yet soberly to power.”
This move came following the purchase of a 29.18% stake in the television network NDTV Ltd. on August 23 by the Adani Group, helmed by Gautam Adani, a conglomerate with a wide range of business interests. He has stated that the group will conduct an open bid to acquire a further 26% of the firm under SEBI regulations. The Adani Group launched their open offer on November 22, and it will be available until December 5, 2022.
