Goutam Deb, the mayor of Siliguri and the fair’s chief advisor, said this during a news conference on Thursday at the Kanchenjunga Stadium grounds. He claimed that today’s culture, particularly that of the younger generation, is reliant on the internet and has lost interest in reading. They, therefore, plan book fairs to pique the attention of the younger generation. He added that a large parade would also be held on December 3 at the book fair. He stated that renowned actor and painter Devshankar Haldar would inaugurate the fair, and along with him, music composer Shramana Guha Thakurta, would also be present.

Anjan Dutta, a well-known musician and performer, opened the 39th North Bengal Book Fair last December in Siliguri with the slogan “Alokito manush chai,” which translates to “we want enlightened people.” As a result, the prestigious publishing houses from Bangladesh, Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata were present with their best works.
