State Begins Effort to Enroll “Out of School Children” by June 30

Date:

The state Education Department has directed all district education officers under the Samagra Shiksha Mission (SSM) to identify and enroll Out of School Children (OoSC) in their respective districts. This initiative aims to ensure that these children receive an education.

A senior official from the School Education Department stated that a district-wise list of OoSC will be compiled and submitted to the department. The focus is on children from various marginalized backgrounds, including nomadic tribes, those living at traffic signals, street children, children on railway platforms, those working in dhabas and garages, rag pickers, and children of pavement dwellers, both in Kolkata and other districts, who have not yet been enrolled in schools.

“The main aim is to identify these children and counsel them to bring them under the ambit of school education,” the official explained.

The deadline for identifying these children is June 30. The collected data must be uploaded to the Paschim Banga Samagra Shiksha Mission portal by July 7. Following this, efforts to integrate these children into the education system will commence.

To expedite this process, the SSM has formed dedicated teams in each district, comprising para teachers and education employees, to conduct the survey and ensure prompt action.
