Sikkim, nestled in the northeastern part of India, has been honored with the prestigious title of Best State for its exceptional implementation of the Environment Education Programme (Eco-Club Programme) during the 2023-24 term. This commendable recognition was bestowed upon the state by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) at the National Review Meet held in the capital city.
During the ceremony, the award, comprising a trophy and certificate, was presented to the distinguished representatives of the State Forest and Environment Department, namely Rajen Pradhan and Laxuman Darnal. The honor was bestowed upon them by Ms. Nameeta Prasad, the Joint Secretary of MoEF&CC.
This recognition not only highlights Sikkim’s dedication to environmental education but also emphasizes its commitment to fostering sustainability and conservation efforts through initiatives like the Eco-Club Programme. Furthermore, Sikkim’s victory in the official logo competition for the revamped Environment Education Programme further underscores its leadership in promoting environmental awareness.
The winning logo, crafted by Adarsh Pokhrel, a student from Yangang Senior Secondary School, and Krishna Sharma, a talented graphic designer from Yangang, stands as a testament to Sikkim’s innovative approach towards environmental education.
This prestigious title is anticipated to serve as an inspiration for other states and regions to enhance their own environmental education programmes, thereby contributing to a more sustainable and eco-conscious future for India.
