Tragedy struck Sang Khola near Singtam as a fatal road accident claimed the lives of two individuals and left four others injured. The incident unfolded around 5:30 AM when a vehicle ferrying tourists from Siliguri to Gangtok veered off the road, plunging into the waters of Rani Khola.
Among the casualties were a 72-year-old tourist and the unidentified driver of the vehicle, whose lives were lost at the scene. Identified as Rabindranath Paul from Kolkata, the deceased tourist’s body was recovered from the river, while the driver’s identity remains undisclosed. The remaining passengers, all hailing from Kolkata, sustained injuries and were promptly rescued. They were initially rushed to Singtam Hospital for treatment and later transferred to Manipal Central Referral Hospital in Gangtok for further medical attention.
The tragic incident has left authorities grappling for answers as investigations into the cause of the accident are underway. The vehicle involved, bearing registration number SK 01 TA 1626, serves as a grim reminder of the perils that lurk on the NH 10 stretch near Singtam.
