Shyama Shree Sherpa, a prominent actor and producer, marked a historic moment for Sikkimese and Nepali cinema by representing her film, “Tara, The Lost Star,” at the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival. This milestone marks the first time a Sikkimese-Nepali film has been screened at this globally renowned event.
Sherpa expressed her pride and joy at the event, stating, “I am glad to announce that it’s a historic moment for all the Sikkimese and Nepalis as for the first time a Sikkimese-Nepali film named ‘Tara, The Lost Star’ will screen on May 20 at the biggest film festival in the world, Cannes International Film Festival.”
Directed by Samten Bhutia and produced by Sabitri Chettri, “Tara, The Lost Star” is presented by SADA Productions in association with Passang Mintok Films. The film beautifully showcases the stunning landscapes of Sikkim’s Nathang Valley and Memencho Lake, with Shyama Shree Sherpa and Kiran Dahal in the lead roles, supported by Deoraj Sherpa and Loonibha Tuladhar.
The film’s selection for screening at Cannes’ Marché Du Film highlights its international recognition and the hard work of the entire team. Sherpa, who is also the founder of SADA Productions, took the opportunity to commend the team’s efforts and celebrate their achievement in bringing Sikkimese culture to a global platform.
