Kurseong IT Park’s First Phase to be completed by November 2025

Date:

The first phase of the IT Park in Kurseong, located near the Kurseong Polytechnic College, is expected to be completed by November 2025, according to officials from the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) and West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation (WEBEL). The joint survey conducted on-site confirmed the project’s progress, with the civil work currently 70% complete.

The IT Park, which will span an area of approximately 1.5 lakh sq ft, will include 30 plug-and-play modules (35,618 sq ft) and 30 non-plug-and-play modules (24,287 sq ft). Additional facilities will include a rooftop futsal ground, badminton court, theater, and commercial spaces for food and beverages (5,940 sq ft) and other businesses (19,369 sq ft). The project, valued at Rs 48 crore, is a key initiative aimed at transforming Kurseong into a “Smart City.”

Tobden Lama, Executive Director of Information Technology at GTA, assured that the project is on track and that both GTA and WEBEL officials were satisfied with the work. Despite delays due to heavy monsoons, the project remains on schedule. Sudarshan Chettri, Executive Engineer at the GTA Kurseong Engineering Division, confirmed that the first phase of the park would be completed as planned by November 2025.

The IT Hub is expected to generate significant employment opportunities for the educated youth of North Bengal, as well as attract foreign investment to the region, boosting the local economy. The foundation stone for the project was laid by GTA Chief Executive Anit Thapa on February 4, 2024.

Once fully operational, the IT Park will contribute to both local development and the region’s growing IT sector.
