In a groundbreaking move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the dates for the next three seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to communications sent to all ten franchises, the 2025 edition will commence on 14 March and conclude with the final on 25 May. The 2026 season will run from 15 March to 31 May, while the 2027 season is scheduled from 14 March to 30 May.
This early announcement is unprecedented, as the BCCI aims to provide clarity for all stakeholders, including international cricket boards. “This initiative reflects our commitment to aligning global cricket calendars and facilitating participation for overseas players,” a BCCI official reportedly stated.
Ahead of the 2025 season, the IPL will host a mega auction on 24 and 25 November in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia—a first for the league. The auction will see 574 players go under the hammer as ten teams look to fill 206 available spots. Among the prominent names, England pacer Jofra Archer, initially excluded, has now been added to the list. “Archer’s availability for the full 2025 season makes him a sought-after asset,” a franchise official remarked.
USA’s Saurabh Netravalkar and domestic player Hardik Tamore are also among the names listed for the auction. Archer, listed as player number 575, will feature in the accelerated round of bidding.
With the 2025 season set to mark the league’s 18th edition, the IPL continues to cement its reputation as cricket’s premier global event. As excitement builds for the auction and the tournament, fans and franchises eagerly anticipate another thrilling chapter in IPL history.
