Sikkim’s Neaha Rai Successfully Summits Twin Peaks in Ladakh

Date:

Ravangla, Sikkim | August 2025 — In a remarkable display of endurance, determination, and mountaineering skill, Neaha Rai, a young mountaineer from Ravangla in Namchi district of Sikkim, has successfully summited two prominent peaks in Ladakh’s Markha Valley — Mt. Kang Yatse I (6,400 meters) and Mt. Kang Yatse II (6,250 meters).

Currently working as a seasonal freelance mountain guide in Ladakh, Ms. Rai completed the challenging twin-peak expedition under demanding conditions, marked by steep ascents, unpredictable weather, and rugged terrain. Her successful ascent not only demonstrates her advanced technical climbing ability but also reflects extraordinary mental resilience — both critical traits for high-altitude mountaineering.
A Noteworthy Feat in Indian Mountaineering

The Kang Yatse twin summits are regarded as significant climbs in the Indian Himalayas due to their altitude, steep approach routes, and unpredictable alpine environment. Ms. Rai’s accomplishment is especially noteworthy within the Indian mountaineering community and carries added weight as she represents the growing talent from India’s Northeast region — an area increasingly making its mark on the national mountaineering map.

Her climb reinforces the rising visibility and impact of Sikkimese climbers in high-altitude expeditions across the Himalayan range.
Looking Ahead: An 8,000-Meter Dream

Following her successful summit of Kang Yatse I and II, Neaha has now set her sights on an even more ambitious goal: scaling an 8,000-meter Himalayan peak in the near future. This next step marks a bold leap in her mountaineering career and signals her intent to join the elite ranks of Indian climbers who have tackled the world’s tallest mountains.
Inspiring a New Generation

Neaha Rai’s achievement serves as an inspiration to aspiring mountaineers across the country, especially young women looking to carve a path in the challenging world of high-altitude climbing. Her journey highlights the spirit of adventure, resilience, and determination that define successful mountaineers — and offers a shining example of what’s possible with grit and passion.

As she prepares for her next challenge, the entire Sikkimese and Indian mountaineering community stands behind her, cheering her onward and upward.
