Siliguri, 23 August 2025 – Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb visited the under-construction Burdawan Road flyover earlier today to assess the progress of the ongoing project, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the city. The flyover, which is a major infrastructure development in the region, is expected to be completed by December 2025, with traffic expected to begin moving on the structure by January 2026.
During his visit, the Mayor spoke with local media and provided an update on the project’s timeline and current status. Deb acknowledged the delays that had impacted the construction, citing several challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, coordination issues between the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Railways, as well as the significant increase in project costs. The original budget for the flyover was ₹46 crore, but it has now escalated to ₹70 crore due to unforeseen complications and inflation.
Despite these setbacks, the Mayor expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the revised schedule. He assured the public that all involved departments were now working in close coordination to ensure the timely delivery of the flyover.
“The Burdawan Road flyover will be a crucial addition to our city’s infrastructure. It will significantly reduce traffic congestion, especially in this busy area. We’re committed to completing it on time, and all departments are fully aligned to meet the revised deadline,” said Mayor Gautam Deb.
The Burdawan Road flyover is expected to ease the flow of traffic, particularly in one of Siliguri’s most congested areas, and provide much-needed relief to commuters. Once completed, the flyover will connect key parts of the city, making it easier for people to travel across the region without encountering long delays.
The Mayor’s visit today marks an important step in monitoring the progress of this vital project, which has garnered significant attention from local residents and business owners alike. With the anticipated completion date approaching, the city is eager to see the benefits of the flyover come to fruition.
Siliguri’s residents and commuters can look forward to more updates as the project progresses and will be hoping that the newly revised timeline holds true. The completion of the flyover is expected to contribute to improved traffic management in the region and ease transportation bottlenecks that have long plagued the area.
Stay tuned for further developments on this important infrastructure project and other initiatives aimed at enhancing Siliguri’s urban landscape.
