India Clinches Asia Cup Title with 4-1 Win Over South Korea, Qualifies for 2026 Hockey World Cup

Bihar, September 7,2025 – The Indian men’s hockey team secured the Asia Cup title on Sunday with a decisive 4-1 victory against defending champions South Korea in the final held in Bihar. This win also earned India direct qualification for the 2026 Hockey World Cup, scheduled to take place in Belgium and the Netherlands from August 14 to 30 next year.

India’s scoring was led by Dilpreet Singh, who netted two goals in the 28th and 45th minutes. Early momentum was set by Sukhjeet Singh’s goal in the first minute, and Amit Rohidas added a late strike in the 50th minute. South Korea’s only goal was scored by Dain Son in the 51st minute.

South Korea entered the match as the reigning champions, having won the tournament in 2022. However, India’s superior pace and control dominated the final game.

India finished the Asia Cup undefeated, with five wins and one draw. Led by captain Harmanpreet Singh, the team won all three group-stage matches and recorded convincing victories over Malaysia and China in the Super 4s round, with scores of 4-1 and 7-0 respectively, alongside a 2-2 draw against South Korea.

This victory marks India’s fourth Asia Cup title, with previous wins in 2003, 2007, and 2017. South Korea remains the most successful team in the tournament’s history with five titles.
