Tshering Wangchuk Sherpa Appointed as Indian Ambassador to Vietnam

Darjeeling, September 8,2025 – The Gorkha community is celebrating a proud moment as Tshering Wangchuk Sherpa from Ghoom, Darjeeling, has been officially appointed as the Ambassador of India to Vietnam. His appointment is being widely regarded as a milestone achievement for both the Sherpa community and the greater Darjeeling Hills.

An alumnus of the prestigious Goethals Memorial School in Kurseong, Sherpa has built an impressive career in the Indian Foreign Service. He most recently served as the Joint Secretary in the United Nations (Politics) Division at the Ministry of External Affairs, and has held key diplomatic roles in countries including South Korea, Japan, Nepal, and Israel.

Community leaders, organizations, and well-wishers have extended their heartfelt congratulations, expressing pride and confidence in his ability to strengthen India’s diplomatic ties with Vietnam. Many also believe his journey will serve as an inspiration to youth from the Hills aspiring to serve the nation.

Sherpa’s appointment is seen as a reflection of the dedication, discipline, and excellence for which the Indian Gorkha community is known. From defense and diplomacy to education and sports, the community continues to make notable contributions to the country.
