C.P. Radhakrishnan Elected As India’s New Vice-President

New Delhi, September 10, 2025 – NDA leader C.P. Radhakrishnan has been elected as the 15th Vice-President of India, securing 452 votes against Opposition candidate B. Sudershan Reddy, who received 300 votes. Out of the total MPs, thirteen abstained, while over 98% participated in the election.

Voting and Counting
The election process took place in the newly inaugurated Parliament building. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first to cast his vote, marking the beginning of a smooth and largely peaceful polling process. Counting was completed without any reported issues, confirming Mr. Radhakrishnan’s decisive victory.

Statements and Reactions
After being declared the winner, Mr. Radhakrishnan described the result as a reflection of support for a “nationalistic ideology.” He pledged to dedicate himself to India’s growth and development, expressing his vision to achieve a developed India by 2047, on the centenary of independence.

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and outgoing Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar extended their congratulations. They highlighted Mr. Radhakrishnan’s extensive experience in public life and said his leadership would strengthen both Parliament and India’s democratic institutions.

C.P. Radhakrishnan will officially assume office as India’s 15th Vice-President, succeeding Jagdeep Dhankhar. He will play a crucial role in presiding over the Rajya Sabha and supporting the functioning of India’s legislative framework.
