Five-time Asian championship medalist from Assam, India, boxer Shiva Thapa, continued his winning streak and stormed himself into the finals of the 2022 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan.
In the semi-finals of the 63.5 kg category, Shiva faced 2019 Asian Champion Bakhodur Usmanov of Tajikistan. The match turned out to be a close knockout in the beginning, but Shiva’s boxing experience, agility, quick moves, and sprint overshadowed his opponent, resulting in a 4-1 verdict. Thapa also got the better of Bakhodur in the 2021 semi-finals but lost to Asian Games silver medalist Baatarsukhiin Chinzorig of Mongolia in the final. The London 2012 Olympian will be facing Uzbekistan’s Abdullaev Ruslan in the final on Saturday, November 12th, for his second Asian title. Earlier, Shiva had defeated Minsu Choi in the quarterfinals.
