Many people find Mondays to be boring. Not if your name is Ruturaj, though! In the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarterfinal game against Uttar Pradesh, Ruturaj Gaikwad created history by hitting seven sixes in one over. In a match against Uttar Pradesh, Gaikwad was in deadly form, smashing sixteen maximums.
Maharashtra opener smashed Shiva Singh for seven straight sixes in the second quarterfinal of the domestic 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy match in Ahmedabad. Gaikwad hammered a six on a no-ball that was part of the over. Maharashtra scored 330 runs for five wickets in 50 overs based on his innings. With the help of 16 sixes and 10 fours, Gaikwad scored 220 runs in 159 balls.
Gaikwad also scored his maiden double century in List A cricket, going from 165 off 147 to 207 off 154 thanks to the mayhem he caused in the 49th over.
The 25-year-old Gaikwad is now the holder of the record for scoring 42 runs in a single over. The previous record belonged to Zimbabwean Elton Chigumbura, who scored 39 runs off Alauddin Babu in a Dhaka Premier Division game in 2013. The 43 runs Shiva gave up are now tied for the most in List A cricket history with Willem Ludick of New Zealand.
