SMC Announces Water Supply Disruption for Nov 22-23 Well Event

Date:

The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has announced a two-day suspension of drinking water supply on November 22 and 23 due to the inauguration of a second intake well. To mitigate the impact on residents, the SMC has made alternative arrangements, including the deployment of 26 water tanks and the distribution of 3 lakh water pouches across all city wards.

The suspension, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, is expected to affect households and businesses throughout Siliguri. Mayor Gautam Deb assured residents that the measures in place will minimize inconvenience. “We are committed to ensuring that everyone has access to water during this period,” he stated.

The SMC’s efforts are being supported by the Public Health Engineering Department, which will aid in the distribution of water across affected areas. Residents are encouraged to store water in advance and use the alternative resources provided by the municipal corporation.

The second intake well, part of an ongoing infrastructure improvement project, is expected to enhance the city’s water supply system in the long term. While the temporary disruption may cause short-term challenges, officials emphasized the importance of this upgrade for meeting the city’s growing water demands.

This proactive approach by the SMC aims to address immediate needs while working toward sustainable water management for Siliguri’s future.
